English Language Challenges

Since I was a child I liked English, and I always tried to learn it as much as I could. When I was 12 years old I started to get interested in boy bands, almost all the music I listened to was in English, and for my own interest I started looking for the lyrics of the songs and translate them with a dictionary, and that way I learned English practically alone. Later when I was older I always tried to get good grades in that subject. In fact it never cost me much to learn it.

At university, the use of blogs helped me a lot to improve my writing skills and my grammar, it is very useful to write weekly on a specific topic! Also making videos speaking in English, as well as improving my writing helped me with pronunciation and fluency.

Nonetheless, I can still improve my English because it still costs me a bit to maintain fluent conversations. You always have to keep perfecting yourself! I plan to take courses to increase my level of English, and after that I would like to be able to travel to an English-speaking country such as the United States or England. And additionally, after learning English completely I would love to be able to learn another language like German or French.

I think that lately I have very little English language outside of my English class. I usually listen to music in English and I always try to pay attention to the lyrics and try to understand them without having to look for them.

This is my last blog of English IV, and I am very happy to have gone through this great experience, to have shared with classmates from other careers that I did not know and to share with classmates of my same career with whom I do not usually talk so much. I loved having gone through this course. Success in all!

Changes to my study program

Personally, being a first year student, I don't question much the changes that the career program should suffer. In fact, he had never asked me until today.


Food Engineering is a career oriented to the chemical sciences and 11 semesters of duration, being the first two years common subjects are carried out with all the faculty careers, and from the third year onwards the specialized subjects begin. I think that having two years of "basic" subjects is a good way to introduce yourself to the world of the university. And I do not really understand much about exactly what specialized subjects are about.

Many times I have thought that the duration of the career is not very long, but it is not short either, although I think it has the duration it has because we must approve the necessary subjects so that tomorrow we can face the world of work.

On the infrastructure of the faculty, I think It could be better, maybe a little more technological. But I think the laboratories (or at least those that I have been in) are in good conditions and have the necessary aertifacts to do the classes.


I think that the teaching methods vary according to the teacher, although almost all the sujects have in common that hour of cathedra and seminars are held, which are a good instance to solve doubs that the teacher has not been able to clarify

Regarding the use of technology, I think it is something deficient, at least in the short time that I have. The fact that he is studying basic branches does not allow us to use technology totally related to food engineering.

In my opinion...

Today I'm writting a different blog. I'm going to answer some questions related to Chile today.

1.- What is my opninion about buying instead of adopting pets?

I think every one has the right to decide between adopting or buying a pet, it’s a decision of  every persona and also adjusts to the socioeconomic situation. But I personally think that adopt it’s a beautiful act, because you are giving a home to a homeless animal.

2.- What is my opninion about climate change?

About the climate change I think that it’s a worrying subject because it’s something that harms everyone, as inhabitans of planet Earth. The increase the greenhouse gas production is responsability of man causes the increase of temperaturas within the planet and one of the things the it causes is the melting of the glaciers.

3.- What is my opinion about recycling?

Recycling it’s a attitude of life, when we recycle we are responsable of the present and the future of our planet, to give a good home to our future generations. When we separate waste of garbage, we are making a little big difference!

4.- What is my opinion about immigration?

In my opinion immigration it’s not a bad thing, actually, I think it’s good to know new cultures. But the problem is when they help increase delinquency, when they don’t respect the law. We don’t need bad contributions that there are already.

5.- What is my opinion about legalization of abortion in the 3 cases?

I personally agree with the free abortion, more than in 3 causes, I think that every woman has the right in her own body. Nowadays, abortion it’s a reality, many women die from ilegal abortions, why not to legalize a free and safe abortion? 

The Eye

For me an amazing organ of the human body is the eye, because the sight it's the most used sense in our body, it allow us see everything that's happening in our days and life, and it's the principal organ in the visual system.

The eye it's like a camera, we have a kind of lens called crystalline lens where the light stimulus is caught until it reaches to a curved surface called retina, there the image that we're seeing is projected inverted. In the retina there are a specialized cells that convert the image into nerve impulses that travel through the optic nerve to the brain where the image is inverted in order to form the vision as we know it!

The eyes are located in our heads, down the eyebrows and between the nose and the ear on reach side of our face. They have spherical shape, approximately 25 mm in diameter and weighing aproximately 8 g.

The eyes are composed of multitude of little organs. The ciliary body, which has an fundamental role in the accommodation of the vision. The iris, that it's the colored part that we see in our eyes, and which it's perfored in the center by the pupil. The cornea that is the anterior part of the eye and transmits the light to the lens and the retina.

The illnesses that can alter the normal functioning of the eye are refraction problems, like myopia ansd hypermetropia, cataract, optic nerve disorders, diseases of retina, among others.

To keep the eyes healthy you have to eat fruit and vegetables, keep a healthy weight, don't smoke, use summer glasses to proctect them to UV-A and UV-B radiation, and let the take a rest.

Post Graduate

Nowadays I think it's very important to do a post graduate to develop in the professional field. I personally would make one to be able to add knowlegde and be a specialist in a certain matter. I'm very interested to follow a PhD degree in nutrition and food or master degree in food with mention management, quality and food safety, or why not? Both.



I think a very good reason to follow a PhD degree it's to have more disciplines in the area and be able to develop relevant research in the field of nutrition. The required subjets to finish the program are Nutrition and Food Biochemistry I, Nutrition and Food Biochemistry II, Bioethics and Research Unit. I would like to study it in Chile, in this University, and probably the most convenient for me would be make a part-time course to be able to work and study at the same time.

And about the master degree, I think that a good reason to make it it's that the food area it's one of the most productive sectors and with this master degree I could contribute to it's growth to encourage exports. The required subjects will be Management and quality systems course, Course on Microbiology, Hygiene and Food Safety and Course of Food Safety Management Systems, and like the PhD degree, I would like to study part-time.

Anyway, I think it is very important to continue developing in the area that we are studing, in this way we specialize in our career and that helps a lot when we're looking for a job.

My future job

I think that my future job it will be something related to the career I'm studying, Food Engineering. The food engineer can develop in different areas like Production or Development Engineer, Quality Assurance Manager, Production and Operations Manager in the different industries, or concieve and design food products and processes, or free practice of the profession by creating their own companies, and much more.


I would like to dedicate myself in the design of food and products, because it's a good way to help society, imporving the quality of the food that is consumed. I imagine it inside a laboratory, always working to get better products.

About the salary a food engineer at the fourth year of graduation is 1737-1895 USD or 1.100.000-1.200.000 CLP, graduated from Universidad de Chile.

I love to travel, know new places, change air, so I'd love to travel in my job. Like travelling to other countries or towns to conferences or develops new techniques for design food.

I hope when I finish my career, I can specialize doing a postgraduate, magister, doctorate, or anything related to engineering, I still don’t know what but I know that I want to it! I want to be more cultures and special person in my área.

I think it’s very important study something that you like, something that you’ll enjoy when you’ll be working, because it’s something that will be with you the rest of your life.

Music in my life

Music is one of the most important things in my life. I listen music everyday. In the mornings when I go to college, in the afternoons when I go back to my home, when I'm studying, when I'm in the shower. Simply, all day, everyday.

My musical tates are varied. From clasic music to clasic rock, including romantic balads, pop and much more! But if I have to choose just only one kind of music it would be rock, many types of rock.




My favorite bands of this kind of music are Guns n Roses, Aerosmith, The Doors, Metallica, Queen. I also like Lenny Kravitz, and other styles like Reik, Camila, Miguel Bosé, Ricky Martin, many artist. I'm very scattered in this sense! I'm a huge fan of the sound of the piano. I think it's relaxing. But I also enjoy the sound of the guitar, and the chello, the drums, and all the orchestral instruments. I think all the instruments sounds are magnificent.



When I was younger I liked music like Mazapán, and I used to hear everyday Mozart, because my mom put it for my baby little sister, and I never got bored. Anyway I still enjoy the both two.

I always remember the music of one of my favorites movies: The clockwork orange. All the music in the film is clasic music, especially Beethoven, because the protagonist (Alex) liked him. Or the music of Black Swan, all the soundtrack is the Tchaikovsky Swan Lake. And I'm completely in love with the soundtrack of the Disney movies, like Moana, Frozen, Tangled, Hercules. All the movies!


I'm convinced that music is very important thing in the life of people. It's something that give us joy.

I can't live without music.
